Dramaturgy as a Control Room of Discourses. Relations Between Theatre and Society in the German Federal Republic of the Seventies.

The dissertation project tackles dramaturgical practices in the Federal Republic of Germany during the 1970s, with a specific focus on production dramaturgy. The practical aspects of the dramaturge’s work – as well as the degrees of her involvement in the proceedings of theatre ensembles – will be reconstructed on the basis of concrete examples from the West-German theatre landscape in this decade (Schaubühne am Halleschen Ufer Berlin, Schauspiel Stuttgart and Schauspielhaus Bochum, Staatliche Schauspielbühnen Berlin, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus…). The dissertation will thereby raise questions on methodologies and possibilities of a historiography of dramaturgy.
